This page is an humble little tribute to a very touching story, The Phantom of the Opera. Some of you may have been surprised that this has little to do with Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version. I considered this, but found a great number of phantastic phan sites dedicated to the musical that , since I absolutely can't stand conformity, I determined to rebel.
This page is a blending of the passions which I hold dearly: the Phantom of the Opera, Literature, Opera, and more. Some of the areas contained in this site are quite personal, particularly "Phantastic Phantoms," yet it is my site nonetheless. (If you have a problem, go make your own site.)
It is my contribution to the tragedy of Erik--my humble little torch that acknowledges the tragedies of social injustice~of genius wasted as a result of the blackness of human prejudice and ignorance. It also recognizes the unbound altruism of the human heart--the power to love and to give selflessly without being loved in return: that is Erik.
Erik is the archetype of strength against overpowering odds. He has the power to love when there is hate and fear; to give when the world has taken away so much from him. His suffering had eventually driven him to madness, yet in the end, his generous blessing to Christine and Raoul signifies the triumph of the human heart. Erik dies after this, yet his spirit lives on in the generosity and kindness of so many in the world.
Yet the tragedy of the Phantom of the Opera lives on as well--in those who are denied rights and freedoms; those who are discriminated against; those who hence, treasure the conveniences and warm-hearted kindness many of us take for granted.
The Phantom of the Opera is a symphony of the human soul--Carlotta's Pride, Christine's Innocence; Raoul's Refinement; Meg's Friendship; Erik's Emotions of Love, Madness, Jealousy, Obsession, and Pain.
Here's to the enigmatic mystery that is man!
